How to Grow Geum from Seed
Geums remain evergreen or semi-evergreen through winter and will thrive in most gardens, with the exception of very dry ones where they grow slowly and flower poorly. The key to successfully growing geums is moisture retentive soil and position. Geums prefer evenly moist, compost-enriched soil, with good drainage, especially in winter and while full sun is fine in cool-summer climates, a site with morning sun and afternoon shade is more ideal.
Sowing:
Sow Guem seeds into seed trays during late summer or early autumn for over-wintering or in late winter to mid spring. Water from the base of the tray, keeping the compost moist but not wet at all times.
Germination typically takes 21 to 28 days at 18 to 22°C (65 to 70°F)
Prick out each seedling once it has its first set of true leaves and transplant into individual 3 inch pots. Grow on under glass, gradually acclimatising to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out in late spring once the danger of frost has passed.
