Asclepias Apollo Orange
MilkweedCommon name
Vivid orange blooms with attractive slender foliage and loved by butterflies. Perfect for cut flowers and garden beds flowering from early summer right through to the first frost. 34-38”. HHP.
How to grow Asclepias from seed
Asclepias prefers well-drained, loamy soil in full sun, it can be container grown outside in summer and moved indoors over winter.
Seeds can be started indoors, sow 8 to 10 weeks before last frosts are expected, alternatively sow directly on to moist, well prepared soil that has been raked to a fine tilth, press the seeds into the soil and lightly cover. Germination takes around 14 to 21 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin to 40cm spacing. Reduce watering after flowering and deadhead to prevent self-seeding. Keep almost dry in winter and protect from frost.
