Stokesia Laevis Blue Star
Stokesia laevisLatin name
Stokes AsterCommon name
Really beautiful plant with huge Cornflower like heads in Wedgewood blue. Hardy old fashioned perennial border plant, extremely reliable. 18".
How to Grow Stokesia from Seed
Stokes’ aster remains evergreen over mild winters. A North American wildflower, Stokesia is a low maintenance, perennial with large lilac-blue cornflower-like blooms on low growing plants. Attractive to beas and butterflies, Stokesia has a long flowering season and the blooms are very good for cutting.
Drought tolerant, lightly fragranced and delightful seed heads to follow the flowers, this easy plant will fast become a favourite.
Sow Stokesia seed indoors from January to April. Germination averages 20 days at 65-75F.
When large enough to handle, prick out the seedlings into 3 inch pots and grow on cooler 60-65F before transferring into the garden when the plants are large enough.
