Salvia Nutans
Salvia nutansLatin name
A rather unusual Salvia, quite unlike other types. The graceful plants have violet nodding flowers which hang in clusters on the top of tall flower stems. Perfect for the perennial border where the flowers blend in elegantly. 4’. HP.
How to Grow Salvia nutans from Seed
Surface sow indoors onto moist well drained compost covering with just a little sprinkling of soil. Germinate at 68-77F (20-25C) keeping the soil moist but not wet. Germination usually takes 2 weeks. Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle into 8cm pots and grow on cooler. Harden off and plant out once all danger of frost has passed. Seeds can also be direct sown outdoors after last frosts have passed. Grow on in a sunny position. Remove faded flower spikes to prolong flowering and deadhead if you do not wish the plants to self seed.
