Phacelia Tanacetifolia Lavender Bouquet
Phacelia tanacetifoliaLatin name
Commonly known as ‘bee’s friend’, as its nectar rich blooms are so attractive to pollinators. Easy to grow, with lavender coloured flowers on tall, sturdy stems and a useful cut flower adding a casual wildflower look to bouquets. Ideal plant for ‘green manure’ – an ecologically friendly way to improve the quality of your soil. 30-40”. HA.
How to Grow Phacelia from Seed
Direct sow by raking soil and removing any weeds. Scatter the seed and gently water in. Germination is quite rapid and the seedlings should be thinned to about 30cm spacing. Very little attention is then required and the plants should start flowering 6-8 weeks from sowing. Deadhead if you wish to avoid self seeding and if you plan to use as 'green manure' make sure you dig in prior to flowering or cut down and compost the foliage.
