How to Grow Lily Bulbs

Pollenless lilies, known as the ‘Roselily’ offer all the elegance of traditional lilies with some very practical advantages as they produce no loose pollen, the blooms stay clean, bright, and stain free, making them perfect for indoor displays, weddings, and anyone who loves pristine flowers. They also tend to last longer, as the petals aren’t damaged by falling pollen. A major benefit is their suitability for hay fever sufferers. With no airborne pollen, these lilies are much more comfortable for people with pollen sensitivities, allowing them to enjoy the beauty and fragrance of lilies without the usual irritation.

Lily bulbs should be planted as soon as possible, ideally in the Spring but can also be planted right up until the Autumn. The bulbs grow well in both the garden and in pots or containers. If planting in the garden, find a spot with full sun or partial shade and well drained soil.

The bulbs prefer an Ericaceous soil and do not tolerate lime very well. Arrange the Lilies in an odd number goupings and plant the bulbs about 5-8" (12-20cm) apart, space the groupings at least 2-3' (60-90cm) apart. Plant the bulbs making sure they are covered by 4-6" (10-15cm) of soil.

If growing in containers, plant 5 bulbs to a 15" pot using good quality, multi-purpose compost with added grit. The bulbs need to be planted with 4-6" (10-15cm) of soil on top ensuring there is adequate drainage. The containers need a full sun or partial shady position
