HEUCHERA HEUCHERETTE PINK

A compact, award winning Heuchera with large rose pink flowers on short, sturdy spikes and striking purple bronze, silver toned foliage with deep burgundy undersides. Its dwarf habit forms neat 10-14” (25–35 cm) mounds, blooming heavily from spring into early summer. Heuchera's are wonderful ground covering, evergreen perennials, ideal in borders, containers or even hanging baskets and often grown as much for their foliage as for their flowers.

Equally at home in woodlands or rock gardens Heuchera are wonderful winter plants, the leaves are evergreen, even when covered in snow. Used in winter containers, the purple-leaved varieties compliment white or yellow flowers such as crocus, snowdrops and primroses.

White and pale-flowered Heucheras thrive best in woodland borders while the red-flowering varieties enjoy sunnier positions provided they are sheltered from the midday sun.

Heucheras tend to become woody and lose vigour as they get older so divide the clumps every three to five year in late summer or spring. Cut back the entire flower stalk after flowering, this ensures that the plants put their energy into growing more leaves rather than developing seed.

Heuchera seed is tiny and dust-like and can be sown from January to June. Fill a small seed tray with a light, well-drained seed compost, moist but not over-damp then sow the seed as thinly as possible across the surface. Lightly mist with water but not cover the seeds as they need light to germinate.

Keep the seed trays under plastic domes without excluding light, misting occasionally to keep surface moist. Once the seedlings begin coming up the seed tray can be bottom watered.

Germination typically takes 14 to 21 days at 70F

Once large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings into individual 3 inch pots to grow on, taking care not to damage the long roots when pricking out and potting on.

Harden off for a week or two before planting out into light free draining soil once all danger of frost has passed. Keep well watered their first year and provide some shade from the midday sun.
