ALLIUM CAERULEUM BULBS

Also known as azure or blue flowered garlic, Alliums are herbaceous perennials with a strong onion or garlic scent. This stunning blue ornamental onion is ideal for a sunny border or large container. Dense globes of star-shaped, bright blue summer flowers on stiff upright stems. Allium Caeruleum grows from small bulbs, producing linear leaves in the spring which wither by flowering time. The dried flower heads are attractive left in the garden or cut for an indoor display.

Alliums, or ornamental onions, are grown for their fabulously showy flower heads, which come in wide range of sizes and shades of blue, purple, white and yellow. Bees and butterflies love them. Alliums are incredibly long-lived and flower for ages, after flowering, the dried flower heads look attractive in the garden. They can also be cut for use in an indoor display and make attractive Christmas decorations.

Allium bulbs should be planted in early autumn at a depth of about four times the diameter of the bulb. Plant smaller growing alliums 8-10cm (3-4in) apart, taller species need at least 20cm (8in) between the bulbs.
