Romneya Coulteri

A superb tall sub-shrub with leathery silver grey leaves and simply gorgeous pristine white fragrant flowers at least 5" across with golden tasselled centres flowering from June to September. Enjoys a hot sunny position but is hardy in most conditions and will thrive well in a cool greenhouse if planted in pots. 7’. HSh.

How to Grow Romneya coulteri from seed

Surface sow onto moist well drained compost with added sand or perlite for drainage. Do not cover the seeds, simply press into the soil as light is need for germination. Patience is required as germination can be difficult. Cold stratify for 2-3 months in a fridge at 35-40F (2-5C) and then grow on at 50-60F (10-15C).

Transplant into larger pots when the seedlings are large enough to handle, taking great care as Romneya dislike disturbance. Grow on in a sunny sheltered position away from cold winds. It may take several years for the flower to bloom but they are well worth the wait. Protect the plants during the winter with a good winter mulch.
