Poppies are amongst the most flamboyant of Cottage Garden plants, both annual and perennial, for they flower from early summer (perennial) through to late summer (annual). Furthermore they offer real value for money in that they reseed themselves and pop up in the most obscure and usually difficult places where other flowers refuse to grow. PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
In early Spring or the previous Autumn scatter the seeds in patches. Rake lightly into the soil and prevent bird damage by stretching fine cotton across the area on pegs. Alternatively sow thinly in seed trays in the Spring, allow to grow 4-6inches tall and literally cut the whole mass of seedlings into 1inches squares with a kitchen knife and then plant into the garden like plugs. They will reseed every year.

POPPY MOTHER OF PEARL (Papaver rhoeas)
Our seed is grown from original English stock given away by Sir Cedric Morris in which there should be no hard colours. Lilac, grey, peach, pink and the 'in-between' shades and there you have a true Mother of Pearl. 2'. HA. Contains 250 seeds.
SHIRLEY POPPY (Papaver rhoeas)
Soft wavy-edged petals both double and semi-double in dozens of shades including picotees and bicolours. 24inches. HA. Contains 250 seeds.
PROFESSIONAL TIP
If you've sown and cultivated correctly you'll love to use these flowers for cutting. Pick when the first sign of colour is showing through the bud and dip the first 11/2inches of stem in boiling water for 30 seconds. They will then last for several days. Seed heads can be saved for winter decoration.
